I'll have two drinks and you'll have three.
We'll watch the brilliant sky tonight
Because it's the 4th of July,
And everyone's gonna love it.
The patio at the hotel
gives us seats to three firework shows.
My roommate she gets us cheap drinks,
poors me too much to drink too soon.
I tell you this is my family,
you, me, and these three others too.
We're all watching the ferris wheel
even through all the explosions.
Another bar, another light
to celebrate your freedom from me.
But you whisper now you're ready
and you know I won't tie you down.
I never minded all your fears,
you've made me smile so much sooner.
It's unexpected and I'm drunk
but I am looking at our hands.
The bartender is Mrs. Bone,
I can't remember her first name.
Fuck Billy Joel and his piano.
Kyle plays another song for you.
Air guitar in hand you play along
while we all smile and drink again.
Illegal pops and bangs go off
out the back door, over the fence.
The lights dim and we're at the car
with a cigarette in your hand,
and my hand still in your other.
You take me home safely to bed.
